Is a family portrait a good choice for a custom paint by numbers kit?

I've been thinking about turning one of our favorite family photos into a custom paint by numbers kit instead of just printing it and putting it in a frame.

The photo has five people in it, so I'm wondering if that makes it too detailed for a paint by numbers project. I don't mind spending extra time on it, but I'd like it to actually look like the original when it's finished.

Has anyone here used a family portrait for a custom kit? Were the faces still recognizable, or would you recommend choosing a simpler photo instead?
