Chronic pain

I have to take codine for back pain issues that i will have for the rest of my life and was wondering what would happen if i have to take my pain medicine the night before my colonoscopy, ive been told to try and only take half of what i usually take and was just wondering if anyone else has went through the same experience i am facing, any help would be greatly appreciated
