Do you think social media has had a positive or negative impact on your mental health ?
I feel like most of us have a love–hate relationship with social media. It’s where we keep up with friends, see what’s happening in the country, follow news, learn new things, and sometimes just switch our brains off for a while. For a lot of people, deleting it completely isn’t really an option anymore.
But at the same time, it’s easy to lose an hour without even noticing. Sometimes you close the app feeling entertained. Other times you end up comparing yourself to everyone else, feeling like you’re falling behind, or wondering why everyone else’s life seems so much more exciting.
Then there’s FOMO—the feeling that you’re missing out if you’re not constantly checking in. On the flip side, some people say they feel much happier after taking a break and experience what people call JOMO, the joy of missing out.
I’m curious how it’s been for everyone here. Has social media mostly been good for your mental health, mostly bad, or somewhere in the middle? Have you ever tried taking a break from it? Did you miss it, or did you feel relieved? And if you had to be honest with yourself, do you think you have a healthy relationship with it?
