First 50km last weekend!
Hi fellow walkers,
last weekend I did an overnight 50km walk, 18.30 to 4.30am (after having done a 40km walk in training as my longest distance). My experience, summed up:
0 - 30km: absolutely grand, felt wonderful and energetic
30 - 40km: this is where it starts to get tiring, had to push on a bit and overcome some discomfort
40 - 50km: this is really where the race starts, lol. The last 10km were really tough, and the last 5km were a huge effort of will (although by 45 or 46km you know you can finish, so there's that)
I'd recommend it to anyone curious: 90% of the starters in my event finished it, and I genuinely think with some preparation - a few 30, 35km walks - and the determination to finish it, it's entirely doable.
A wonderful experience, and 4 days later I am still floating on a small golden cloud of pride and satisfaction :) wishing you all a splendid day!
