Part 1: The Girl with the Blue Umbrella

Every evening at exactly 6:15 PM, Aarav stepped off the crowded local train and walked to the same wooden bench on Platform 3. It had become a habit so natural that he no longer questioned it. His colleagues believed he enjoyed watching trains. The tea vendor assumed he was waiting for another train home. But the truth was much simpler.

He wasn't waiting for a train.

He was waiting for the rain.

Rain had always made the noisy railway station feel peaceful. The sound of raindrops on the metal roof drowned out the endless announcements, the whistles of trains, and the hurried footsteps of passengers. For a few precious moments, everything felt calm.

And almost every time it rained...

She appeared.

Her name was Meera.

No one seemed to know much about her. She always arrived carrying the same old blue umbrella. It wasn't fancy or expensive. In fact, it looked slightly worn around the edges. Yet somehow, it suited her perfectly.

What made her unforgettable wasn't the umbrella.

It was her kindness.

She never walked past someone who needed help. She held the umbrella over elderly passengers struggling with heavy bags. She smiled at children who splashed through puddles. She bought tea for tired workers and biscuits for the stray dog that slept near the station entrance.

She never expected anything in return.

To everyone else, she was just another traveler.

To Aarav...

She became the most beautiful part of every rainy evening.

For weeks, he only watched her from a distance. Sometimes their eyes met for a second before she smiled politely and continued walking. Those tiny moments somehow stayed with him long after he reached home.

His friends laughed when he mentioned the mysterious girl with the blue umbrella.

"You don't even know her name," one of them joked.

Aarav smiled.

"Maybe one day I will."

That day arrived sooner than he expected.

One evening, heavy rain poured so suddenly that people rushed under the station roof. Aarav had forgotten his umbrella and stood watching the rain.

Then a familiar voice spoke beside him.

"You'll get soaked if you stand there."

He turned around.

It was her.

She held out half of her blue umbrella.

For a moment, Aarav forgot every sentence he had rehearsed in his head over the past few weeks.

Finally, he managed to speak.

"Do you always wait for the rain?"

She smiled, her eyes reflecting the station lights.

"No," she replied softly.

"I wait for people who still believe the rain is beautiful."

Aarav couldn't help but laugh.

"That's the most unusual answer I've ever heard."

"And yet," she said, smiling again, "you understood it."

That single conversation lasted only ten minutes.

Yet somehow, it changed everything.

From that evening onward, they met almost every day.

Sometimes they shared hot tea while watching trains arrive and depart.

Sometimes they simply sat in silence, listening to the rain.

They spoke about childhood memories, favorite books, dreams they hadn't told anyone else, and places they wished to visit one day.

Meera dreamed of seeing the mountains during the monsoon.

Aarav wanted to travel without caring about the destination.

"What matters," Meera often said, "isn't where you're going. It's who walks beside you."

Days slowly turned into weeks.

Without realizing it, Aarav stopped checking his phone every evening. The station had become his favorite place because she was there.

Even the tea vendor began placing two cups on the counter before they ordered.

"You two are becoming regular customers," he teased.

Meera laughed.

"Maybe the rain likes us."

Aarav noticed that she rarely spoke about her family. Whenever the conversation drifted toward her personal life, she gently changed the subject.

He didn't push.

He believed everyone had stories they weren't ready to tell.

Then came a rainy evening unlike any other.

Dark clouds covered the sky, and thunder echoed across the city. The platform was quieter than usual.

Meera stood beside the tracks, watching the rain with an expression Aarav had never seen before.

She looked worried.

"What happened?" he asked.

She remained silent for several seconds.

Finally, she turned toward him.

"If one day I suddenly disappear," she asked softly, "would you wait for me?"

Aarav laughed, trying to lighten the mood.

"You ask strange questions."

"I'm serious."

He looked into her eyes.

There was fear hidden behind her smile.

"I don't know how long," he answered honestly, "but I know I'd never stop hoping."

For a brief moment, tears gathered in Meera's eyes.

She looked as if she wanted to say something important.

Then her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen.

The color faded from her face.

Without saying a single word, she slipped the phone into her bag, tightened her grip on the blue umbrella, and began walking away through the rain.

"Aren't you coming back tomorrow?" Aarav called.

She paused for only a second.

But she never turned around.

A few moments later, she disappeared into the endless curtain of rain.

Aarav stood alone on the platform, watching the place where she had vanished.

For the first time...

She didn't look back.
