Despite the flaws, I do think Campaign Evolved is the best Halo we've had in 15 years.
And yes, it does feel a bit like they're cheating. Most of what's great here is from the original, but the improvements do make it feel fresh. A lot of the fat has been cut and the visual uplifts to the environment in many areas are great. Gameplay is where it shines, as I think this game might have my favorite combat system out of all of them. Still, I was done in 8ish hours with my heroic run including some exploring and tons of dying. While I do want to go back in and look for skulls, this game feels very light on content for 50 bucks. Still, I did have a great time and am going back in for more, so there's that.
In comparison to our other recent Halo's: Halo 4 was boring aside from Cortana, Halo 5 caused a soft reboot, and Infinite was fun but severely underdelivered. So, at least they're improving? Halo might not be back to its full glory, but this is at least a step forward. I'm just hoping we won't have nothing but remakes to look forward to.
