Seeking Advice

I am going into my senior year of a BSN program and will graduate in May. I want to specifically work in pediatrics and am trying to coordinate things as best as I can to end up where I want.

As of now, my interest is specifically in pediatric surgery. Long term I want to get either a RNFA or a DNP, possibly both. I've got a course plotted mentally but I wanted to check in and ask advice from more experienced nurses.

As of now, I have 3 months experience working in a nurse role at a pediatricians office and 3 months as a non-licensed home healthcare nurse. This semester, I am going to seek out an ALS class to replace my BLS, and a pediatric CPR AED class. I'm going to try to get my preceptorship in the spring at Erlanger Children's hospital in Tennessee, hopefully either ICU or PACU, as i doubt they have preceptorships in the OR.

After NCLEX, what do you think my likelihood of getting a position in the OR is given what my experience will be at that point? What units would you suggest I apply for that would then be good experience to transfer to OR as soon as I can?

After working in the OR for two years, I would apply to a RNFA program and get my CNOR during that process.

After I successfully do that, are there other things my resume would benefit from before applying to a BSN to DNP program? Any gaps I should fill before application?

I know this is assuming a lot, but I'm a big planner and I don't like to leave things to chance, I like knowing my options.

Please offer any guidance or advice you may have, concerning this or in general, as its much appreciated.

Thanks!
