Advise for foreigners who work in the Philippines
I am a female foreigner living in the Philippines and working. My position is in management, where I supervise and lead local Filipino employees.
Previously, I worked in both my home country in East Asia and the United States. Since my spouse holds both Philippine and U.S. citizenship, we are now living together in the Philippines.
I am very happy with my life here. My salary is about two-thirds of what I earned working full-time in the U.S., but with benefits such as a housing allowance and a company driver, I am very satisfied with my overall compensation and quality of life now.
However, I have been quite disappointed with certain aspects of the workplace culture in the Philippines. I’ve experienced situations where people spread rumors or make false accusations in an attempt to undermine others.
As a foreigner working in this environment, I would really appreciate hearing from Filipinos. How should I conduct myself? What should I be careful about to build good relationships and avoid unnecessary problems?
