Contractions compared tho calf cramps / charley horse

I once heard, that the pain of labour contractions is at first similar to period crams and later similar to a bad charley horse. And it kind of makes sense because a charley horse is a strong muscle contraction as well as labour contractions are. Was it like that for you? Are labour contractions really feel like this extreamly bad charley horses ?
