National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) Alumni: How is the mandatory 1-year return to India actually enforced and monitored?
Hi everyone,
I'm planning to apply for a STEM master's abroad and am considering the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS). I have a few questions about the mandatory 1-year return-to-India requirement after graduation and would really appreciate insights from current or former NOS scholars.
- How does the 1-year stay in India actually monitored? Is it based on passport records, employment, tax records, or just document submission?
- What is the process for getting the surety bond released? Is there a lot of paperwork involving the guarantors?
- Can you work remotely for a foreign company while living in India, or does it have to be an Indian employer?
- If you moved abroad again after completing the 1-year obligation, how difficult was it to get a visa or sponsorship?
