New to the band, question about excerpts

I’m doing their discography in order and obviously the 24hr+ albums I will listen to only the excerpts, but what about the other long ones? Take for an example an 8 hour release. Would you consider it “listened” to if you just hear the excerpt? I’m asking for general clarification because I am really interested in this band and don’t want to cut corners when listening to their work. How does the fanbase feel about this? I feel like I wouldn’t be the first one with this question.
