Throttle % Vs stick position

Im curious about throttle setup and google searches give conflicting answers. I recently learned of 3D mode, so I imagine using that you would have your throttle stick centre as 0% throttle so as to be able to use lower stick for reverse thrust.

For pilots who dont use 3D mode, is it more common to have 0 stick = 0 throttle, or do people use a centered stick as 0 throttle? Is there a norm or more personal preference?
