AITA or recognising a pattern

Me and my long time friend used to be really close but in the last 2 years, my friend drops me when a new person is around. Usually festivals or house parties but also if we are at a shared activity like a class. I spoke to them about feeling a little dismissed in groups and they claimed its that they know we are close so they want to spend time getting to know people. But we are talking arice at the pub together and within 2 minutes she if off. I get its fun to meet new people of course, but we only hang out once every few weeks etc and its spend with them "socialising" i feel a little like the support person so she doesnt have to go alone but then not interesting enough for them to be bothered with. Im worried im being clingy i guess by asking when we organise a night to hang together i mean us together not me guarding a table while u chat with others, I dont have a problem chatting with new people!. Id be happy to do this dynamic if it was once and awhile or if we hung more regularly. But I feel like a tick box so she can say "yeah I saw her, that's good till next month" am I being ridiculous. I brought it up again this most recent hang that this friendship doesn't feel very reciprocated, that i was tired of being the second option when the cool people have left. She called me clingy and said I was acting like a needy partner, that she wants to meet new people while out thats the point of going out. I just let it go because it was kind of humiliating. Idk if im being an asshole about this
