Classical Piano Teachers You Can Vouch For

General Question

Thanks for sharing in advance.

Can you recommend a classical piano teacher you can genuinely vouch for—someone who matches what I’m looking for (see my situation below).

I met two potential piano teachers this week. I think they’re both great and competent, but they’re probably not the ones I’m looking for.

Both of them suggested that I start with a method book, warm-up exercises, and technical drills. Only after that would I be allowed to play pieces at the same level as the prerequisites I’d already practiced.

As adult learner, I just don’t prefer this rigid approach. It often means spending a long time playing exercises or pieces that don’t really interest you. It could even take years before you get to play the music you actually love, and by then you may have lost some motivation.

I’m looking for someone who asks, “What pieces do you want to play?” If I answered, and they replied, “That’s beyond your current level, but I’ll help you develop the technique and teach you just enough music theory to get there,” that’s exactly the kind of teacher I’m looking for.

I have very limited resources (time, energy, and money). While I understand that learning any instrument takes a long time, I believe there’s an alternative path that accelerates the learning for adults. Will really appreciate any recommendations.
