Keypad <> Hub without myQ opener

I'm going a bit crazy here and need some help. Can't find the answer anywhere, but apologies if it's been asked and answered:

Can I connect my keypad to the hub/app without a myQ opener?

Hub: installed and working with my opener

Opener: working, older Liftmaster, NOT myQ

Keypad: working, connected manually, not through app, to my opener

I cannot connect the keypad to the app because this requires the opener be myQ. You cannot proceed through the QR setup process in the app without passing through an opener-focused step.

Why??? Why doesn't the keypad connect to the hub itself? This means I cannot take advantage of multiple keypad users, guest codes, etc. Logically, if my phone can talk to the hub to open the door, why can't the keypad talk to the hub as well?....

I'm feeling a little crazy, dumb, or both.
