My girlfriend became distant after I expressed my needs, and I don't understand what changed

At the beginning, my girlfriend genuinely liked talking to me. Everything felt natural and she actually seemed interested in our conversations.

Things started changing after I expressed some basic needs in the relationship. I wanted a little more affection, genuine conversations, occasional voice notes, etc. After that, she told me texting makes her feel overwhelmed, she doesn't feel comfortable texting much, and she doesn't want to talk every day.

I accepted that and stopped asking for those things. But now when we talk, it often feels like a formality: hi, how was your day, bye. She says talking to me feels exhausting, but if we don't talk for 2–3 days, she starts thinking ending the relationship might be better. She also doesn't seem to understand why she feels this way.

I'm exhausted too. I don't need constant texting or attention. I just want us to talk because we genuinely want to, not because we're supposed to as a couple.

I don't know whether expressing my needs made her feel pressured, whether the excitement from when our relationship was new faded, or whether we simply want different levels of communication.

I still want the relationship, but not if nothing changes. I don't know what actually went wrong.
