Calamities are underestimated

[Lore Discussion]

(English is not my first language, sorry for any errors!)

I've been rewatching the ARR trailer and I feel like the game and the general idea we get from it doesn't give enough justice to the calamities. And it also shows both the ignorance of the Ascians and the resilience of the people in the world. Calamities were world ending apocalypses (that's what they had to match after all) and they were VERY destructive. They uprooted the world like nothing else. The people in lore had to go through that several times and somehow they survived. One way or another, the apocalypse came again and people just... lived. Like we know about Bahamut and the Seventh Umbral Calamity and how destructive it was but we also have to take into account this one was *stopped* short. Sure it still achieved its goals but by Louisoix sacrifice and the fact people were already working *against* the Ascians for this one, the damaged was far less to the planet as it could have been if Bahamut continued to rampage everywhere.

I just think the game doesn't really portray how disastrous and terrible all of them were, no matter how many times they are referenced. Or at the very least the players don't feel it. And yet the world went through seven of them. Seven times the world ended and it just kept going again. To me, it shows how ignorant the Ascians were to notice that the people got up again each time. That to the survivors who had to pick up the slack, the "star" kept spinning. And all they could do was to go on. I tried to avoid speaking of things beyong ARR but it also shows why Hydaelyn bet on the people and their innate strength, despite their weaknesses, their resilience was unmatched and it was tested in literal apocalypses time and time again. So no wonder this "incomplete people" had the strength to fight against literal oblivion.

What's the end of all when you've already lived through the end of the world?
