It's 1996 and Dukakis is on his way out. With his vp now ready to take his place. That vp is no other than former Senator from Pa Harris Wofford taking over as vp after Bentsen retired from his role as the democratic rm in 1992 in favor of pursuing the position of Secretery of Treasury.

But he isn't our main focus no because our focus & main candinate will be his polar opposite.

Newt Gingrich

Rise of this Man began in 1990 during the midterms when he turned his bomb-throwing into a real grassroots political initiave called the Congressional Action Plan (CAP for short).CAP was filled with promises what would congress do if his movement took power, his promises were widely popular across the board and caused the gop victory in those midterms (even if it had meant the casting out of some incumbent republicans). So anyway after this Gingrich had Become the Soth and world was at his feet right? Wrong.First of all his style of politics became so combative that it caused severe backlash from the democrats, average americans and even his own party and yes he managed to get some CAP stuff done but it wasn't all and it caused some goverement shutdowns further damaging the Gop Brand. If that wasn't enough his affair during his first marriage got exposed causing some Gop bleeding in 1992 elections. But somehow, someway he survived and after some good resualts in 1994 midterms he decided to throw his hat into the ring and become the president of the United States of America. And after some bitter midterms between him and the Texas Governor George W. Bush,he captured the nomination. But it won't be an easy road.Yes America generally wants to move on from Dukakis but there isn't the same anti-Dukakis energy there was just a few years ago with economy generally improving and Gop lead congress still unpopular, paired that with Ross Perrot entering the race hitting Gingrich with his affair over and over just to climb beyond single digits in the polls. But hey it Ain't all bad.His Bread And Butter promises in it's core are still largely popular so if he communicates them effectivelly and maybe softens his image & rhetoric a bit but does all of this carefully so he can lock down his conservative base while winning over moderates and swing voters he will see some gains,it's good to note that Ross Perrot dosen't just hit him He Also hits Wofford endlessly on anything and everything (mainly on him being an radical liberal with the Word liberal becoming very toxic in recent years),people still yearn for an change from the Dukakis admin with his presidency & people in it yet having weak points to be hit on,and hey if extends an effective olive branch to all the establishment guys and the evangelical crusaders he lost due to his private life he will have no problem with party unity with him picking Bush as his rm being the first step in that whole "Gop as an unified front" goal.

So overall when you combine all of these factors you get an muddy race that decides what way will America go into the 21st century. If it goes into the ways of strong liberalism or Goes in the direction of republican conservatism.
