Argument with my friends boyfriend going too far

Today I had an argument with my friends boyfriend. I dislike him a lot because he is quite mean because she loves him so there isn’t a lot I can do. Also to note my dad has cancer so my tolerance is already low from that.
Me and my friends bf are in the same art class and we had a stupid argument because I said that i believed that his best friend is neurodivergent (I am neurodivergent) we had an argument and then to top it off he says “i genuinely hope your dad dies”… he knows that my dad has cancer. Obviously i was angry that he said that because that is going too far. My dad isn’t even close to being don’t treatment and him dying scares me a lot. Her boyfriend did apologise over text after the class and said he didn’t think because he was pissed. I said it was fair enough and it was all good because i didn’t want drama. Is this a genuine thing to be upset about though because I’m still upset about it.
