Post Vet Behaviour (two f)
Delilah (D), 7, female, spayed. Black & white tuxedo. Cranky ex-only child.
Cleo (C), 4.5, female, spayed. Tortie. Loves love & yap.
Both living together for 3 years now, some mild slaps and so on during this time but nothing major. D's only ever hissed at C a few times during these few years and only recently when a male cat came to the window and D sent him away and somehow that was C's fault? Idk.
Fast forwarding to this week. Sunday night I got the cat carrier out of the wardrobe ready to take C to the vets in the early morning. D hates both carriers even though there's only one she goes in, she dips for the night and sleeps downstairs - which is also very normal for her. C doesn't mind the case and carried on as normal.
Monday morning:
C goes to vets, and came home to D big eyes sulking in a corner in my office on a fleece I put down for them. Noticed she has a scratch on her ear but nothing unusual and I make a mental note to trim her nails soon.
Partner and I spend the day cleaning the floor (new house, just took gross carpet up) and check on D a few times who's still not fussed with anyone and staying in her little safety corner in my office. Picked C up from vets late in the evening, all well but soft food for a bit. D wasn't fussed to come out, C just rolled around loopy. I did rub my hands all over C and then rub them over D in hopes of preventing some smell issues. I go off to bed and at some point my partner heard D hiss at C (although apparently I heard it in my sleep and told her to stop but I don't remember any of this, full instinct).
Today:
D's still a bit off but rubbing against us whenever we fuss her. Keeping to herself a bit more but otherwise acting normal. C's happily oblivious to everything.
To make sure no jealousy happens with food I've been giving C all of the food pouch but sprinkling the left overs from the pouch onto D's food.
Comes to 10 minutes before food and D's excitedly waiting around me and my partner in the living room, and C comes in to verbally remind me. Today D hisses at C and then growls.
D usually only slaps C during this time if C gets too close to D, she's hangry so I kinda get the gtf away from me vibes. C's always oblivious and just lovingly headbutts everything. But D practically went to C and did this.
Is it just post vets stinky or do we think something's actually up with D? If it's just vet stinky am I best rubbing clothes over D and then C so she smells like D? Was it just I did it the wrong way before?
Obviously I know a vet visit will get an actual answer but no one wants to pay for a vet to go "she's just cranky" 😂
