Dog Bite - need guidance
Hello, I am going to try really hard to be vague, but this will probably still come back to bite me in the keister. However, I am really desperate to hear from people who have had similar experiences and learn what happened in their situations.
I am a DoorDasher in the state of Michigan, and I am especially interested in hearing from other people in Michigan.
While dashing yesterday, the customer was outside with her two dogs on leashes. Specifically, she was standing directly in front of the stairs leading up to her raised porch. The customer instructed me to walk past her and the dogs to leave the order on her porch. As I was coming back down the steps, one of the dogs attacked me. It jumped up and latched onto my leg with its mouth. The customer just stood there and let it happen without trying to intervene. As I walked away, she laughed and called after me, saying that “small dogs just do that.”
When I got into my car, I pressed the report button in the Dasher app, took photos of the injury, and wrote down everything that had happened. I honestly didn’t think it was a big deal at the time, but the dog had actually gotten me pretty good, so I decided to be proactive about it.
Prior to this, I didn’t realize how dangerous even what I assumed were minor dog bites could be. I genuinely thought the only concern was rabies. When I told other people what had happened, they were significantly more concerned than I was and urged me to go to urgent care.
I did, and the doctor suggested that I speak with a personal injury lawyer. I filled out an inquiry for one and am still waiting to hear back. In addition, the doctor instructed me to contact animal control to obtain the dog’s vaccination records and then return to urgent care once I heard back from them.
And that is where I am at currently. I am just absolutely stressed out of my mind. Really need to hear from people to see how it played out for them.
