Can someone explain how presets work? As in character presets.

Whenever I download, say, a RaceMenu face preset, it doesn't actually appear in the presets. Sometimes it's a race unto itself, and even then it doesn't appear. I'm confused. Am I missing a mod? Did I install something wrong? I'm using Vortex as my mod manager.
