Game jammers: What tools do you wish existed?
I'm a Technical Artist, and recently I've been experimenting with building tools for game development (mostly for game jams). Instead of guessing what people need, I thought I'd ask the community directly.
If you could have one tool that would make your next game jam easier, what would it be?
It could be anything:
- Unity, Godot, or Unreal plugins
- Standalone desktop apps
- Web tools
- Discord bots
- Asset or pipeline tools
Some ideas I had:
- Scope estimator (to help avoid overscoping)
- Asset organizer
- Dialogue or quest editor
- Build & submission checklist
- Team coordination tool
- Reference board
- Level design helper
- Automatic credits generator
- Localization helper
But I'm sure there are problems I haven't thought of.
A few questions:
- What engine do you use?
- What's the biggest pain point during a jam?
- Is there a repetitive task you wish could be automated?
- What's one thing that wastes your time every jam?
I'm not selling anything—I'm just looking for ideas to build tools that are genuinely useful for the game jam community. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
