Built two TypeScript CLI tools for infrastructure workflows. Feedback appreciated.

After spending a lot of time managing Linux servers and SSH configurations, I found myself repeating the same workflows over and over.

That eventually turned into two open source projects I've been building under HostnExtra.

HostnExtra CLI

A command-line toolkit focused on simplifying common infrastructure and server management tasks.

HostnExtra SSH Config

A CLI for managing SSH hosts without manually editing ~/.ssh/config. It helps add, organise, edit, connect to, test, import, export, and manage SSH configurations from the terminal.

Both projects are written in TypeScript, published on npm, and designed to work across platforms.

The goal wasn't to create another framework or replace existing SSH tools. It was simply to build something that makes repetitive day-to-day operations a little faster and a little cleaner.

If you're interested:

HostnExtra SSH Config

I'd genuinely appreciate technical feedback.

Things I'm particularly interested in hearing about:

  • CLI UX and command structure
  • Features you'd expect in an SSH management tool
  • Cross-platform behaviour
  • Performance or reliability improvements
  • Any workflow you've solved differently

Open source gets better through discussion, and I'd love to hear what experienced developers and sysadmins think.
