Just sharing my journey!
Some time ago I found out I was a sephardic mexican jew via my father's side and began to teach myself (through learning apps like duolingo, though not always perfect) how to laern yiddish! took me a matter of weeks to 'ascend to gold' or whatever, but it felt good that I was really trying my best as somebody who had no idea about the language but loved it. I more or less was able to get the gist of the whole thing but like I said earlier duolingo was kina 'so so' so I approached it my personal way through different much more useful resources, and it had never occurred to me that there could exist a community for something as specific as yiddish but now I'm here :) it's been a productive journey thus far. Like I said it ain't supposed to be a 'deep post' or whatever just sharing what i've gone through for the past several weeks. \o/ so i'm kinda stoked that I stumbled upon a very specific type of community on reddit, of all places, lol. One of the reasons why I fell in love with yiddish was because of my music nerd sensibilities and once I discovered the andrews sisters that's kinda how everything stemmed from there lol. I taught myself how to sing "Bei Mir Bistu Shein" by ear too mostly because of how much I kept listening to it haha.
