When do you actually need a line scan camera lens instead of a regular area scan one?
Trying to understand this better before finalizing a setup. Keep seeing "line scan camera" mentioned for high-speed inspection but not clear on why you'd need a specific line scan lens vs just using a regular machine vision lens.
From what I've read — line scan lenses are designed for continuous, high-speed capture (like inspecting moving material — web, sheet, conveyor belt stuff) and they handle things like uniform illumination across a wider, thinner field differently than area scan lenses do. Guessing regular lenses just aren't built for that kind of continuous linear capture at high speed?
I work at kyptec Automation, we make line scan lenses (25mm/35mm/50mm range) built for 8K/4K line scan cameras — so I'm somewhat biased, but genuinely trying to understand from people who've actually deployed these systems. Where does the switch from area scan to line scan actually become necessary in a real setup?
