IPSS-A Affiliation Problem

I’m an officer and TPU Reservist. Earlier this year, I received ADOS orders for an overseas assignment. Long story short: I was disqualified at premob medical, received REFRAD orders, and sent home, having been on orders for seven days. I reenrolled in my normal TRICARE and everything seemed fine.

In early June, I received a notification that my DEERS status had changed. When I checked, it indicated that I had reverted back to active duty status and was receiving active duty TRICARE benefits. This coincided with my being kicked off my normal TRICARE plan.

I thought this would be a relatively easy fix, so I went to the DEERS office with amended orders in hand, but they said that since I am still [incorrectly] aligned with the deployed unit on my STP, DEERS cannot alter my status.

What has followed has been a circular conversation with my home unit and the deployed unit that I never deployed to. The deployed unit says they cannot “depart” me since they never “arrived” me in the first place, but they have “revoked” my arrival to no effect. My home unit says they can’t re-arrive me until I’ve been departed. I submitted a CRM at my unit’s request, but when it came back as “resolved” two weeks ago, nothing had changed in either IPSS-A or DEERS. The email traffic between my brigade and the deployed unit has followed a similar track.

Weirdly, since I’m technically affiliated with both units, I can still drill normally, go on orders, get paid, etc. But it is effectively blocking me from healthcare coverage and impeding my ability to transfer units or do other personnel actions.

Knowing the Army, I have to believe there is someone with God-level access somewhere in the HRC bureaucracy that can resolve this. It’s just a matter of finding out who and what they need to do precisely.

Any suggestions before I file a complaint?
