I Can See - is it just me?
Honestly, i’m disappointed.
I’m a big fan of Nick and I even went to the album release for this. I walked away a little underwhelmed but there are some stand out moments.
It’s a very pretty album, it sounds clean and it’s soothing. Great for easy listening. I would describe it as soft.
For me it’s missing a lot of the atmosphere that made me fall in love with Nick’s music. There’s a distinct haunting feeling to his prior projects that just never fully arrives for me in ICS, only in flashes.
Perhaps i’m suffering the consequence of overplaying the singles. I loved I Can See, Real Here Now and Endlessly Waiting, but I can’t help but feel Nick could have saved more for the release.
By the time the album dropped, we’d already heard the best songs and with a 12 song album you’re not leaving much when you release 5 tracks ahead of time.
Of the unreleased stuff, I like Wet Soft Clay the most and Barii.
When I go back to Green Twins, Cometa, WTMMG there’s just so much amazing tension in the music. I think this album lacks that.
Perhaps it’s the new vocal choices, and slower tempo/lack of distinct drum patterns, but i’d say this is my least fav of his work so far.
I say that despite Real Here Now easily being my most played track on AM this year 🤣.
Hope this doesn’t come across as hate - still my fav artist and I look forward to whatever he chooses to do next.
