Longing by Mary Balogh *SPOILERS*
Rereading Longing by Mary Balogh and SPOILERS BELOW!!!
I think this might be one of MB's best books as far as artistry. I think anyone who reads this really gets pulled into the world. It's really just so good.
However....
I just finished my 3rd reread of this. And this time, Sian really pissed me off! I was getting so annoyed by her choices. It's not like I didn't know what was going to happen, but my goodness, she could be really annoying!
I think what sent me over the edge is realizing she never acknowledged that Owen died because she made a foolish choice to run towards the shooting and he went to \*her\* instead of seeking shelter. Iestyn (sorry, forgot how to spell his name) broke his arm rushing into the crowd looking for \*her\*. All her men from the village are about to be arrested because they've been looking for \*her\*. And she's just like, "well, I'm tired so I guess I'll go upstairs for a bath and some sex." No apologies to anyone?!?!?
She does have some internal dialogue at the beginning of this part of the plot about how stupid her choice of action is, something along the lines of "what would I even be able to do, but I've got to go try to free Iestyn." But she NEVER says it out loud: Owen died because I'm an idiot and made a decision out of pride thinking that I, a mere woman, would convince this army of men to let my bro-in-law go, and then in a panic, ran TOWARDS the shooting instead of away, and Owen came to help me and was shot and killed.
She keeps saying that Owen died saving her. But that just seems to fall reeeeally short of explaining how she put him in danger. It seems like if she hadn't been there, Owen would have run away and been fine. And I get it, he marched in with weapons, ect, and he made his choices...but I just hated how she never once acknowledged how her choices played into why he was running toward her instead of to shelter.
Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED talk. 😂
