Telling your family you like reading danmei

Bit of an odd one here for the hivemind:

My family always asks me what I want for my birthday, and this year I’m planning to ask for a couple books from some series I want to continue. It’s fairly obvious that danmei is BL if you read the descriptions of the books, and while my family likely won’t inherently care, I’m wondering what I should say if it comes up.

Has anyone here had an experience where they told their family or friends about their interests in danmei, and how did it go?
