Help me why is this guy like this. My brain is on heat

So I used to like this guy from the first year of our clg and we slowly became very good friends as we're supposed to do labs together. Like really good friends.

He slowly started flirting with me. Initially it was just regarding academic smartness(I'm not even smart, he's more smarter). Slowly it's about my smiles. Then it became about my looks. He directly calls me pretty and afaik he talks to almost zero girls.

Oneday, we had some interview(we both along with 3 others) I woke up late that day cuz I didn't see msg. He didn't call me but he helped me to prepare for my interview and later he said he thought of calling me before as I was late but didn't call. He even said I'm one of his closest friends.

Now out of blue he started avoiding me and after this, he started liking weird reels like "The pain hits different when the person u care doesn't care about you". Now completely avoids eye contact w me. Whyy!!!??? 🥲
