Vitamin A Increases the risk of lung cancer for smokers and former smokers?

General Question

I started taking multivitamins about a month ago and today by total accident I came across a post talking about how vitamin a supplements increases the risk of lung cancer for both smokers and former smokers. I did some digging into it and apparently they used a combination of both high doses of beta carotene and retinol in the trials. My multivitamin has 3000mcg as beta carotene, mixed carotenoids, which is way less than what was used in the trails but I'm at a loss here. Whats the validity of these trials and is it worth it to continue taking this multivitamin?
Thank you.
