Santander International Payment transfer query -England

Debt & Money

A few months ago I attempted to complete an international transfer with my bank in USD for an upcoming holiday. The transfer didn't go through and the money was returned to me less fees, currency conversion etc.

I made a formal complaint to Santander. They investigated the situation and concluded that the reason was that the account with the beneficiary bank was closed. I know this not to be the case as friends had succeeded in sending money through in the weeks prior as I did subsequently with TransferWise. I was out of pocket to the tune of £375. Santander directed me to the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman have since concluded that no fault lies with Santander, that they were just following instructions. It was not their fault or my fault.

Santander could have contacted me to check the bank details without crystalling the loss on currency exchange by paying the amount back into my account. They could then have resent the payment. They didn't do that. Why should I be penalised financially for something that was not my fault.

I'm looking for advice on what to do next as I don't appear to be getting anywhere with Santander or the Ombusdman

Many thanks

Kevin
