For lovers of fantasy is The Odyssey by Homer worth the read?

As a huge fan of fantasy Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has left me in awe and gave a very similar feeling to The Lord of the Rings movies. Now of course The Odyssey isn’t a fantasy story but it still holds a lot of similarities to the type of fantasy stories that I like. A huge, grand adventure, large in scope and scale. So I was just wondering is The Odyssey really one of the best stories ever made? Or is it more a product of its time? I’m worried it’s going to be more of a dry read and only something I appreciate for what it achieved rather than actually being mesmerised by how good the story and writing is.
