A question linked with the mint prices.
Hey everyone,
I've been putting together the 1971 Canadian $1 silver coins, and I'm down to the very last one I need to complete the set. The problem: the only listings I can find are priced around $219.99, when a coin like this used to sell for roughly $80 not long ago.
What's confusing me is that silver has actually dropped over the same period, so this jump clearly isn't about metal value — it looks like a collector-premium move.
A few questions for the more experienced folks here:
- Is $219.99 a realistic market price, or just an optimistic asking price that tends to sit unsold? (I know sold ≠ listed.)
- For a piece like this, do you expect the price to keep climbing, or settle back down over time?
- Since it's the last coin I need, is it smarter to wait for another example to show up, or grab it now before it goes higher?
I'm not looking to flip it — just want to finish a set I've cared about for years without overpaying. Any insight on real recent sold prices or where this is likely headed would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks! 🙏
