Are there any issues with running 5.5e characters in the 5e Lost Mines of Phandelver?

I am introducing some people to D&D and I want to use the Lost Mines of Phandelver as the introduction. But I also want to use the D&D5.5e rules and classes as I feel that is more balanced and fair.

I know that 5.5e characters are stronger than 5e characters, so I was wondering if there are any issues with running this?

I also read about the Stormwreck Isle starterpack, is that any good as an alternative to LMoP?
