Who suits me better according to my taste?
Hi, I wanna try this game for the first time.
In any game, the most frustrating thing for me is to choose a class. I always end up creating like 5-10 different characters, sinking a ton of hours doing the same leveling path and never actually reaching endgame with either of them, so I burn out and leave...
I checked YouTube videos and people usually say that it's best to check which DLC specialization looks appealing to you (instead of core archetype) because some people enjoy the core class but hate all its specializations and end up disappointed and abandoning whoever they meticulously leveled up from 1 to 80.
I hate phys melee characters, so no soldiers, rogues etc. I only love mages and archers. But I checked some YT videos and it looks like the 'archer' (Ranger) often uses melee weapons and melee abilities which I dislike.
Guardian's Dragonhunter spec is advertised with a bow, but a person said 'you actually don't wanna use the bow. Most people use greatsword or sword because bow barely has any dmg'. Jeez, all of this sounds very unfortunate for me.
Mesmer (any spec) looks obviously beautiful, but again, as soon as I saw the god-damn greatsword...I understand that any character can use any weapon, but it looks like most video footage of this game show people using mostly melee weapons even for mage or archery archetypes, so it probably means it's better, and I don't like playing some exclusive minority builds, going against the flow, you know...
Druid looks beautiful, but I guess it doesn't have enough dmg to not be annoying for solo PvE?
Elementalist is a skip for me because they say you have to play it like a piano, and I'm a casual, I can't handle hectic gameplay with hotbar switching and such.
I know Necro is the most popular and unkillable, but idk, Necro doesn't do anything for me from the visual aesthetics perspective. At least not yet.
I want to play the base free game for some time, and then if the game clicks with me, I would buy the first DLC pack (HoT and PoF), so I need to somehow choose a class that would not be boring to level up in its core form, and keep in mind a target spec from the first expansions. Which one would you recommend?
