Unemployed people really think everyone's schedule revolves around theirs
not to be dramatic but I need to vent because I am SO tired of this pattern lately.
so my partner's aunt texted him last night out of nowhere: "are you home tomorrow? I want to drop by and catch up!"
tomorrow??? a Wednesday??? a regular weekday where normal employed people are either at work or, in my partner's case, asleep because he works night shift and needs actual sleep to function for his 10pm clock in.
but sure, let's just casually plan a visit like the rest of us don't have jobs, responsibilities, or a basic need for rest.
here's the thing that gets me every time.
when you don't work, or you haven't worked in a while, your sense of time kind of dissolves. every day starts to feel the same, so it genuinely doesn't register that Wednesday at 2pm is not a "free" slot for everyone else. I get that it's usually not malicious. but the impact is the same regardless of intent. it's inconsiderate, and it puts the burden on us to cancel our rest, cut into work hours, or be the "bad guy" who says no.
and if you do say no? suddenly you're the difficult one.
you're "always busy."
you "don't make time for family."
no, I make time. I make time on weekends, on days off, on plans that were actually discussed in advance. what I won't do is drop my responsibilities because someone with an open calendar assumed mine was open too.
it's not about not loving the person. it's about basic respect for the fact that other people's time is not as flexible as yours, and it's not our job to restructure our lives around your boredom.
sighhh there goes my rant. if you've dealt with this, tell me I'm not alone in feeling like the villain for simply having a job.
