I went to a Catholic school, and something that really puzzled me and my classmates since we were kids was: Why does the fruit only have an effect after Adam eats it?

In most adaptations, Eve eats the fruit and enters a state of pride or even euphoria, some more than others, or in the fewest cases, at that moment the fruit was simply delicious and that's it, but nothing more than that, and then she insists that Adam eat it too.

And it's right after Adam eats it that they both realize they're naked.

In my online explorations of religious fanatics, I've even come across theories where there's a variation that, while the warning was for both of them, the effect was on Adam. This is because in the Bible, and generally in most adaptations, God only tells Adam about the restriction, and then Adam tells Eve, instead of God telling him directly.

So we have one version where Adam saw Eve eat and nothing happened to him; another where Eve scolded him and he ate; one where Adam ate but didn't realize it was the fruit until he ate it; and there's even one where Eve uses superpowers to put Adam in a trance and make him eat it. Ironically, the interpretation where Eve is indeed aware of her nakedness while eating and wants to give it to Adam, either so she won't die alone... or Adam eats it because he doesn't want to live without Eve, is found in parodies, indie productions, and things that stray from faithfully representing Adam and Eve, like Shumatsu no Valkyrie.
