a part was recognized in therapy … what now ?
so recently i’ve been attending therapy consistently , speaking up on my issues and whatnot. a majority of my mindset towards what i’ve faced has been fairly normalized and repressed to the point of believing that none of it truly happened. of course , there are days where i record symptoms now as opposed to before in an app and share what i can with my therapist. she chalks everything up , according to what i share , as textbook dissociation. something i was unsure about for awhile but had a clue on now that i have a name for this uncomfortableness i get.
yesterday , i shared that i feel as though i’m stuck on auto pilot but i’m not actually in my body. only watching it. and then apparently when it came to a more deeper topic , i halted. even now i feel like a blockade impedes me from sharing further here and elsewhere. long story short , she offered something called parts work. and it caught some attention because why would that be recommended on top of the dbt program she thinks would be suited for me ? a majority of the information was blocked out so i couldn’t write it down or record it , but she mentioned a protector part might be at play for the blockade. and how it’s method of protection is to mentally fortify a wall to keep information in , so to speak. at least that’s what i remember.
i don’t know if she suspects something that i’ve since tried to fight or ignore entirely. but i wanted to know what to expect with parts work and would it better help me understand who or what is maneuvering my life ?
