Every time I needed a quick barcode or QR code I ended up on some ad-choked website, and reading one off a page meant screenshotting it and running it through yet another site. So I built **Barcode & QR Generator,** a Chrome extension that does both, entirely locally, docked in the side panel so it doesn't eat a tab.

What it does:

* **Generate**: type in text/a URL/numbers, pick a format (CODE128, EAN-13, UPC-A, CODE39, or QR Code), get an instant preview, download as PNG.
* **Scan**: click "Crop & Scan," drag a box around any barcode or QR code visible on the page you're looking at, and it decodes instantly, no upload, no external site.
* Everything runs client-side (JsBarcode + ZXing under the hood). Nothing you type or scan ever leaves your browser, no analytics, no backend, no account.

It's free, open source, and this was mostly a "scratch my own itch" side project. Would love feedback, bug reports, or format requests.

I got tired of using random websites to make/scan barcodes, so I built a Chrome extension that does both from the side panel.
