Trying to find the courage to wear nail polish outside of “girl mode”

Question

Hey everyone,

I’m a closeted crossdresser, and I’ve worn nail polish before, but only when I’m fully in “girl mode” and in private. I’ve always loved how it looks and how it makes me feel, but I’ve kept it tied very closely to that side of myself.

Lately, I’ve been wanting to wear nail polish regardless of how I’m presenting otherwise... even when I’m dressed normally in guy mode. The idea feels exciting, but also pretty intimidating. I keep worrying about how friends, family, coworkers, or random people might react, and whether wearing polish would lead to questions I’m not ready to answer.

For anyone who has been in a similar situation, how did you build up the confidence to wear nail polish more openly? Did you start with clear polish, darker colors, one nail, or something subtle? How noticeable were people’s reactions, and how did you handle comments or questions?

I’d also love any advice on colors that feel like a comfortable first step. Part of me wants to stop overthinking it and just do something that makes me happy, but taking that first step outside of girl mode still feels huge.

Thanks for reading, and for any advice or encouragement.
