Champion Store needs a 4th difficulty bar: proposal to re-sort all 173 champions by actual complexity

Discussion

Hey everyone!

Me together with my brother have been looking at the current state of the champion store lately, and while the recent price changes were a step in the right direction, we feel like the system still lacks visual clarity. We believe the current store isn't just confusing for beginners, but illogical for veterans too.

We know that since 2023, price tags were intended to indicate a champion's complexity to players, and in 2025, all price tags were cut in half (for example, 450 BE became 225, etc.). We see that the 225 BE price tag represents the simplest champions in the game, which are best suited for beginners and will help them succeed the most at an early stage. The 675 BE price tag currently indicates moderate complexity, and 1575 BE indicates high complexity and specialization. But what about 2400 BE, which is currently also about older champions? We are curious why it no longer reflects complexity, but is simply something like a basic, standard tier, where most champions currently reside (and among them, champions of definitely completely different complexities). And we see that Riot currently evaluates complexity in each champion's info using only 3 bars. Based on our real impressions right now, this is not enough, and we think: why not add a fourth difficulty bar? Then the 2400 BE price tier could also reflect the real complexity of a champion - specifically, the highest difficulty level in the game with 4 bars (essentially, the most complex champions in the game). The 225 BE price tag would reflect only one difficulty bar out of four (low complexity, symbolic green color), 675 BE would be two bars (moderate complexity, symbolic yellow color), 1575 BE would be three bars (high complexity, symbolic orange color), and 2400 BE would be four bars (very high complexity, symbolic red color). People put a lot of effort into honestly analyzing the true complexity of every champion in terms of, for example, their kit, hidden nuances, real depth, power across match phases, degree of mistake forgiveness, skill floor, skill ceiling and so on. For us, it turned out exactly like this:

  1. Green tier (225 BE) - 12 champions: Amumu, Annie, Dr. Mundo, Garen, Leona, Malphite, Malzahar, Maokai, Miss Fortune, Nautilus, Nocturne and Yuumi.
  2. Yellow tier (675 BE) - 45 champions: Ahri, Alistar, Ashe, Aurelion Sol, Blitzcrank, Cho'Gath, Darius, Diana, Ezreal, Hecarim, Illaoi, Janna, Jarvan IV, Jax, Lissandra, Lux, Master Yi, Mel, Milio, Mordekaiser, Morgana, Naafiri, Nasus, Nunu & Willump, Pantheon, Rammus, Renekton, Sejuani, Sett, Sivir, Skarner, Smolder, Sona, Swain, Teemo, Tristana, Trundle, Tryndamere, Vi, Volibear, Warwick, Wukong, Xin Zhao, Yunara and Zaahen.
  3. Orange tier (1575 BE) - 72 champions: Aatrox, Akali, Ambessa, Anivia, Brand, Braum, Briar, Caitlyn, Corki, Ekko, Elise, Evelynn, Fiddlesticks, Fizz, Galio, Gragas, Graves, Gwen, Heimerdinger, Jhin, Jinx, Kai'Sa, Karma, Karthus, Kassadin, Kayle, Kayn, Kled, Kog'Maw, LeBlanc, Lillia, Locke, Lucian, Lulu, Nami, Neeko, Nilah, Olaf, Orianna, Ornn, Poppy, Pyke, Quinn, Rell, Rumble, Samira, Senna, Seraphine, Shen, Shyvana, Sion, Soraka, Syndra, Tahm Kench, Talon, Taric, Thresh, Twisted Fate, Twitch, Udyr, Urgot, Veigar, Vel'Koz, Vex, Vladimir, Xerath, Yone, Yorick, Zac, Zed, Zilean and Zyra.
  4. Red tier (2400 BE) - 44 champions: Akshan, Aphelios, Aurora, Azir, Bard, Bel'Veth, Camille, Cassiopeia, Draven, Fiora, Gangplank, Gnar, Hwei, Irelia, Ivern, Jayce, Kalista, Katarina, Kennen, Kha'Zix, Kindred, K'Sante, Lee Sin, Nidalee, Qiyana, Rakan, Rek'Sai, Renata Glasc, Rengar, Riven, Ryze, Shaco, Singed, Sylas, Taliyah, Varus, Vayne, Viego, Viktor, Xayah, Yasuo, Zeri, Ziggs and Zoe.

Wow, look at how different the champion store turned out here, and certainly much clearer, more transparent and convenient (in our humble opinion)! We suggest Riot Games make the system in League of Legends even more visually intuitive, especially in the champion store, and thereby make their game even more welcoming, transparent and healthy.

How much would this updated store help avoid confusion and encourage players, especially beginners, to make a more confident and conscious choice?! We want to add that we aim to remove unnecessary uncertainty, visually warn, and guide players, including beginners. But certainly not to limit players' choices! Let people continue, for example, playing the simplest champions at high ranks or the most complex champions at low ranks or before reaching account level 30! Furthermore, we do not rule out that here (in the redistribution of champions by BE price tags regarding complexity) we might also have some room for improvement. But even so, in this form, the champion store is definitely much cleaner and gives honest benchmarks. And we take into account that within each color tier, one champion is slightly more difficult than another. We fully justify and support the price increases for Ryze, Kayle, Singed and Twisted Fate in 2023! If anything, feel free to correct us - let’s discuss!

TL;DR: Current BE price tags no longer properly reflect champion complexity (especially the 2400 BE tier). We propose adding a 4th difficulty bar in-game and reorganizing all 173 champions into 4 visual, complexity-based BE tiers (Green 225, Yellow 675, Orange 1575, Red 2400) to guide new players, remove confusion for veterans, and bring clarity to the store.
