Stop using Google Translate to read Stack Overflow. It's costing you 30 hours a year.

If you translate just 10 sentences from Stack Overflow per day, you spend roughly 30 hours a year copying, pasting, and reading slightly-wrong translations.

But here's the worst part: none of those 30 hours make the next answer easier to read.

Translation is a temporary fix. You will look up the same technical words next month.

The truth is, you don't need to learn thousands of words to read technical docs. Stack Overflow, GitHub issues, and API docs share the exact same vocabulary. If you master just 100 core technical words, 80% of your translation overhead disappears.

Words like:

  • workaround: A temporary fix that avoids the root cause.
  • boilerplate: Standard, repetitive code.
  • mutex: A lock preventing concurrent access.
  • deprecated: Marked for removal in the future.

Stop translating entire sentences. When you see a word you don't know, put it into a Spaced Repetition System (SRS). After 5 reviews, that word is permanently locked in your brain.

We built Wordrop for Mac exactly for this. It runs the SM-2 algorithm quietly in the background and tests you on your custom vocabulary lists during your natural breaks at work.

Learn the 100 core words, and stop paying the translation tax.
