RDR1 Poker is rigged but also a great way to make easy money
First, yes, poker is fucking rigged in this game. I spent 30 minutes skipping against the gray top hat guy in Blackwater, he kept winning with straights, flushes and full houses at a rate that's mathematically impossible. I kept having garbage hands that NEVER matched the community cards, I only had one pair twice and three of a kind once
But the thing is, the AI is very risk-averse so If you act like you have great cards, they all fold 90% of the time. I took advantage of this to get the Savvy Merchant outfit for which you need a net positive of $1000 in total gambling winnings to unlock.
Here's how to do it without wasting money:
-
Go to your hotel room in Blackwater
-
Save
-
Go to the downstairs poker table (if it's empty, literally climb the stairs and go back, there will be players)
4-1) Keep betting 150 - 200 all the time and go all-in in the river (when 5 cards are revealed).
4-2) If someone raises you, immediately go all-in
-
If you lose, reload your save and go back to the poker table
-
If you win between 1000 and 2000 chips, leave the table, go to your room, save and go back to the poker table
I made $2000 in less than an hour
Note: For some reason, it doesn't work when there's only one player. He calls your bluff 99% of the time and he always has a better hand than you. If there's only one player, save to pass time and go back to the table until there are at least 2 players.
