Girlfriend (26F) tends to take it out on me (28M) for any reason
Hello everyone,
First time posting because I need to process what happened this morning, and find a way our of this pattern.
We've been on a relationship for 4 years. Here's what happened this morning:
She works in a place quite far from home and doesn't have her driver license. In general, she takes the train but that's a 1h30+ commute and she has to wake up quite early.
Once a week, I would drive her to work (2h+ round trip before going to my workplace) to ease a bit her morning
It happened that there was a cookie in the car that I took as breakfast on the road. I ended up eating the cookie without proposing a bite to her, which she took really bad because that's a small thing we usually do. I judt forgot, this wasn't intentionnal, just a morning mishap, yet she was quite mad for the rest of the trip. I even went to buy her a donut in a hurry at a gas station because that's something she usually likes, but she told me she hate the one I took, and that I should have known her tastes and she won't eat it. She didn't say a word when I dropped her, she didn't answer to be saying bye.
That basically resumes how most of our arguments unfold: I make a mistake, making her angry, and she somehow punishes me in return. I try to fix it, but that usually make things even worse. She also blames me as if I "always" do this or that, as if what I see as a one-time mistake was to her something that I always do.
I understand that it can be frustrating for her when I do these mistakes, but I really don't understand her way to punish me. I guess she needs to take her anger out on me, but that's really hurting me on the long run.
I'm quite sensitive and really don't stand being pushed away, ignored or humiliated as she does. I've often tried to solve the conflict through communication, but that would make the situation even worse. The only thing to do is act as if all is normal and let time go, she would eventually stop being mad, sometimes apologize about her, explaining she was tired.
So now I'm waiting for end of the day to see if she's still mad when I pick her up back from work. In the mean time, I just feel empty, sad, and can barely work. I'm just stressed by the fear of her still mad at me this evening.
I've already tried to talk with her about how this affects me, but then she would answer that I shouldn't have done the mistakes, and start a new argument.
PS: Mistakes I mention are never dramatic situation. It's casual things such as cooking, housekeeping, eating a cookie, etc. It happens maybe once a month.
Did you ever get the same feeling as me in a relationship where the other is always the one to be mad at you ? How to get out of this ?
