Cat demanding feeding all night

Hello there! I have a cat who insists on lots of midnight snacks. He usually won't eat much during the day when I try to offer him food, just picking at his plate a little here and there, but he seems to save all his appetite for night and go on a binge. After I have gone to sleep he hops onto my bed every hour or couple of hours and puts his paw on my face or arm then taps me until I wake up to bring him fresh food. Last night he got me up around 8 times. I feel tired and weak in the day, unfocused and sometimes sick because I'm not getting all the hours of sleep I need to be fully charged for work.

I have tried feeding him right before bedtime with the hopes that he will feel full and not come after me in the night, but it has not stopped him from waking me up a little later for more. I can't feed him and leave a bowl of extra food around for him to nibble throughout the night when he has a food craving, because he won't eat it as needed, he will get excited and eat everything at once until he can't hold anymore and throws up. I have bought slow self-feeders that he can approach whenever he wants to eat but make sure food is dispensed in small amounts so he can't overeat, he does not like them though, and will not use them, and just go over to me and smack me to feed him instead.

What should I do?
