I'm Confused by My Coworker's Behavior
Am I overthinking this coworker's behavior, or is he actually being rude to me?
I work in a different department from this guy (let's call him A), so we don't interact much. I'm a very quiet and introverted person, and I've never had any arguments or issues with him. That's why I'm confused by some of the things he's done.
Incident 1:My company provides cab service. One day, two of our usual cabmates were absent, so A joined our cab because he was friends with one of them.
After the first person got dropped off, only A and I were left in the back seat. He started asking me questions like my name, whether I lived in a PG or a flat, and how long I'd been living in the city. I answered in one word only but politely.
Incident 2: Our company had a cultural event, and we were practicing for a dance. After practice, my dance partner asked A how our performance was.
He replied, "You both need more practice."
While saying that, he looked directly at me.
Later, while we were drinking juice, he joked, "You guys didn't even practice that much, but you're drinking so much juice."
It felt like he was specifically taunting me, even though we've barely spoken and I've never done anything to him.
Incident 3: One evening, a few colleagues and I stayed late at work and shared a 7-seater cab. Everyone was chatting except me because I'm quite introverted.
One colleague asked if I was naturally quiet.
A then said, "Is she really an introvert, or is she just pretending to be one?"
Everyone laughed, and I just stayed quiet.
Later, when only three of us were left in the cab, he came to me and apologized, saying he was just joking.
I replied, "Did you say something? I wasn't really paying attention."
Incident 4: One day, me and my three colleque (female) were waiting outside the office and asked A if he could bring our bags from inside.
ẞs
He brought the other two girls' bags but not mine.
Then he said, "Oh, sorry. I forgot there were three of you."
I went inside to get my own bag. He also came in because he had forgotten his phone at his desk.
I honestly don't know if it was an honest mistake or not, but it felt strange.
These are just a few examples.
The confusing part is that we're not friends, we're not in the same team, and I've never been rude to him or had any conflict with him.
So why does he keep making comments directed at me? Is he just teasing, trying to get a reaction, or am I simply overthinking normal workplace interactions?
