Fix for washed-out colours when outputting to TV/monitor (USB-C to HDMI dock)
My AYN Thor was not displaying colours correctly when connected to my TV using a USB-C to HDMI dock/cable, which seems to be a common issue both here and in the Discord.
I'd like to share how I fixed this on my device!
- Make sure Developer options > USB debugging is enabled on your Thor, and you have ADB installed on your PC
(there are many guides for how to do this online, it's the same as any Android device)
-
Connect the AYN Thor over USB to your PC
-
Open a terminal/command prompt on your PC and run this exact command:
adb shell settings put system screen_mode_setting 2
(this forces your Thor to use an sRGB colour profile, which correct the colour space used when outputting to external displays - you have to use a command for this because the option is missing from the developer options menu on the device, weirdly)
- Reboot your Thor and reconnect to your external display!
This fixed the issue for me, and hopefully it will help some of you too.
I also had to adjust some settings on my TV to get the picture exactly right - for the most part this included disabling dynamic contrast control options and a few other things, and also disabling overscan. I haven't included instructions for this here as the options will vary a lot depending on which display you use.
Hope this helps!
