Romance in this game is designed extremely poorly

I wanted to romance Karlach. In the middle of Act 1, there's a party after saving the grove. You HAVE to tell her that you like her THEN AND THERE. When you **barely know eachother**. I even checked the relationship status, it was in the middle and said she's basically indifferent to me. Why the hell would I confess to her there????

Later, I fix her engine, she can touch anyone, but oh! Not me! Since the romance is initiated in one dialogue option where our characters don't even know eachother! Why not give the option to romance in camp or something??

I'm 16 hours into the campaign. I'm not restarting. But I literally can't romance the one woman I find attractive out of the main cast.
